Robert McKee, considered the most respected teacher of writing and storytelling globally, returned to Israel in November 2022, 16 years after his previous visit. This time, his final seminar was delivered in front of a live audience.
McKee came to Israel at the invitation of Ari Davidovich and Hypermedia Productions. He conducted his flagship seminar, STORY seminar, which lasted for three whole days. Immediately after, McKee held a special one-day workshop dedicated entirely to writing for television series – the TV Day. Both events took place at the Smolarz Auditorium at Tel Aviv University.
Since 1984, more than 100,000 people in major cities across five continents, from New York to Sydney, have attended his workshops. Among the alumni of McKee’s Story Seminar are many acclaimed writers, directors, and actors, including Jane Campion, Geoffrey Rush, Paul Haggis, Joan Rivers, Meg Ryan, David Bowie, William Goldman, Akiva Goldsman, Kirk Douglas, John Cleese, and Russell Brand. No less than 60 alumni have won Oscars, 100 have won the Writers Guild of America Award, 50 the Directors Guild of America Award, and hundreds more have been nominated for prestigious awards.
Tel Aviv concludes a long and varied list of cities where McKee has delivered his seminar to local audiences.
Approximately 600 people attended McKee’s farewell seminars in Israel, joining the 800 participants from his previous visits in 2005 and 2006, including former Prime Minister of Israel,Yair Lapid, who also wrote the preface for the Hebrew edition of McKee’s bestselling writing guide (published by Gordon Publishing, translated by Noa Manheim).
