The Israeli Documentary Challenge

A competition for creating short documentary films was held in Israel between 2009 and 2014. The format was brought to Israel from the U.S. by director-producer Ari Davidovich, who adapted it for the Israeli filmmaker community. Filmmakers were tasked with creating films within five days, with pre-selected teams working around an annual theme. Over the competition’s active years, it produced 70 films, addressing subjects such as human rights, minorities, refugees, women, sexuality, heroism, and urban planning. The films were created with support from the Second Authority for Television and Radio, the Rabinowitz Foundation – Cinema Project, Yes Docu, and the Gesher Foundation.
